The Faja Project, 2005-2006
The vitrines were approximately 150 feet long and 3 feet deep. They ran on either side of the corridor, which ran from one part of the station to another. The corridor was about 12-15 feet wide. I was excited for passengers to funnel through, but the exit on the other side of the tunnel was closed. Passengers therefore had to make an effort to go out of their way if they were to see the installation. At the end of the hall, you can see passengers streaming out of the turnstiles and turning right, away from the corridor.
This was my first attempt at a large scale, not painting/drawing piece. The many variables, coupled with learning the rules and language of a new country, proved to me just how many things can go wrong (and right). It's pretty comical, and humbling, to try and plan for all these unforeseen circumstances.
